In exciting news, our very own Assistant Residency Program Director & EMS Director, Dr. Eric Beck, spoke at a press conference attended by the Governor of Illinois, Pat Quinn, to announce a new statewide collaboration to improve survival from cardiac arrest. Dr. Beck announced the granting of an award by the Medtronic Foundation to form Illinois Heart Rescue, a partnership between the Chicago EMS System, the Chicago Fire Department, the Illinois Dept. of Public Health, the University of Illinois Hospital and the Chicago Cardiac Arrest Resuscitation Education Service (CCARES). “We will bring the science of cardiac-arrest resuscitation to the streets through simulation training,” said Dr. Beck at the announcement ceremony. “Simple things like high-quality, uninterrupted chest compressions and limiting patient movement during cardiac arrest have been shown to dramatically improve survival.” In addition to serving as state-wide coordination team leader for Illinois Heart Rescue, Dr. Beck is the current Medical Director for Chicago EMS and an Assistant Professor here at the University of Chicago.
Way to go, Eric!
